A work in progress...

I entitled this blog a work in progress because I have been working on this for about 2 weeks now and every time I sit down to start typing a certain cute little baby thinks my attention needs to be solely focused on her and not blogging but I'm not going to mention any names.
So first of all, Makenna is 2 months old already! That certainly flew by fast for me! She had her two month well check on the 26th and weighed in at 9 pounds 10.5 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long, which puts her in the 20th percentile for both height and weight. She's a little on the petite side but she has been gaining weight steadily so her Dr isn't concerned. Makenna is right on track development wise and is perfectly healthy. She received her first round of immunizations which she was NOT thrilled about. I was so nervous for her but she really did better than I thought she would. Thank goodness for Tylenol though. The picture below is the pathetic look she gave me all day, she just looked so sad!
A couple weeks ago, we went to visit Nick's family. It was a busy weekend! Amie had her 14th birthday so we got to celebrate her big day, Nick's dad was released as bishop of their ward, and Brook was the lead in his high school's musical production of Kiss Me Kate. The musical was the first time Nick and I went out without Makenna. I almost started crying as we were leaving his parents house but then I realized we will both survive for a couple hours and I did, and well so did she! Nick's Mom got to babysit and she said she had a lot of fun. Brook was absolutely incredible! He has really matured as a singer and actor since his performance in guys and dolls last year. We were so proud of him and just in awe of his talent! Way to go Brook!
In other news, Makenna smiles now! This is her on St. Patty's day, dressed all festive in her green with a cute grin on her face.
She certainly couldn't be pinched on St. Patrick's day.
Makenna got a new dress, and I think she looks SUPER cute in it.
She has also recently discovered her hands taste delicious and has them almost always in her mouth.
Nick and I are both doing good also. For Nick, dirt bike season has begun. Last weekend he had an overnight trip with his friends Brian and Freddie. They had a lot of fun and are looking forward to another trip in two weeks. Nick's birthday is coming up and he is going to Boston with his Dad, Mom and brother Brook in couple of weeks. I am enjoying my last couple of weeks home with Makenna before I head back to work on April 22nd. I am so blessed that I have been able to spend so much time home with her. I also am blessed to have a job that I enjoy, it makes the thought of going back to work happy and I am not dreading it at all.

Makenna's Blessing Day

Makenna was blessed at church on Sunday March 7. For those of you who don't know what a baby blessing is, it is a special blessing that is given to the baby by a worthy male member of the church, typically the father of the baby. In the LDS church children are not baptized until they are 8 years old so as babies they are blessed as infants so their names can be placed in the records of the church. In the blessing the baby's name is stated and they are given a special blessing of things that are wished for the child to have through out their life. Nick did a great job and gave Makenna a very beautiful blessing. Makenna wore a very special and beautiful dress that Nick's Grandpa Hansen wore when he was christened 84 years ago. After the blessing we had an amazing lunch that our mom's put together for all of our family that attended the blessing at Nick's Grandma and Grandpa's house. We had a great time!

She wasn't thrilled about getting MORE pictures taken but I had to show off the whole dress. She looked so beautiful!
And I had to show off the booties Nick's Aunt Vicki made for her. They are so cute! Vicki is literally the most talented person I know!
It was a wonderful and very special day!

An Eventful Week

It has been an exciting week in the Sabin household. First of all on Thursday the 25th Makenna turned one month old. I can't believe that a month has gone by already. When I was pregnant I remember wishing that time would move faster and now that she is here I wish it would slow down. The day after her one month "birthday" she had a Dr's appt and weighed in at 8 pounds 1 ounce. She had been what I thought was colicy but it turns out she had acid reflux. We got some medicine for her and it is as though we have a whole new baby. She still has her moments like every baby but nothing like it was. There was one day that she cried from noon until midnight. It was awful! I am so glad she is doing better. It broke my heart to see her so upset.
We also had our first "road trip" with Makenna to visit Nick's family in Gig Harbor. She did so good in the car, she slept most of the way. I learned a few good lessons to prepare for next time though, such as bring some pumped breast milk so we don't have to stop when she gets hungry. It took about an hour longer both ways with stops for feedings. Other than that I didn't forget anything! I was so proud of myself. Nick's family was so happy have Makenna there. For Nick's younger siblings it was the first time that they got to hold her and for Brook, he got to meet her for the first time.
Taylor (the youngest) was so funny with Makenna. She was the first baby he had ever held so he was a bit nervous. He asked a lot of questions about and how he can make her better. It was really cute!
Amie was so happy to be able to show Makenna off to her friends at church. She has been taking pictures to school and church to show her friends how cute she is. She is a very proud Auntie, and a natural with her.
Brook was extatic to finally get to meet her to say the least! Brook couldn't be there the night she was born because he is the lead in his high school's musical and he wasn't able to get out of rehearsal. When he came in the house he just said "where's the baby?" He didn't care that she was fussy he just wanted to hold her. He even ballroom danced around the living room with her to try and calm her down.
Kristin stopped by after work to see Makenna to! We always seem to cross paths when we are there so Nick and I were very happy to see her. Hopefully we'll see her hubby Ryan next time.
I realized I didn't get any pictures of Nick's mom with her this weekend, but here is Nick's dad with her. His dad is so funny, he tries to act like Makenna is no big deal but we know that he is a total sucker for her. You can tell just by the way he looks at her.
Our other exciting news is that Makenna's cord stump FINALLY fell off on Sunday night and now she has a cute little belly button!
To celebrate her cord stump falling off, she got to take her first REAL bath. No more sponge baths for her. She loved her bath. We didn't think about bringing her baby bath tub so we found a sink and it worked just fine.

This coming Sunday Makenna is being blessed. I'm excited to get her dressed up in her pretty white dress and have lots of family around. It will be a great day!
